Stop by the museum’s library, just next to the gift shop, to learn about the history of nursing. Featured artifacts include nursing school uniforms from the mid-20th century. For much of the 20th century until the 1960-1970s, nursing students typically trained at 3-year diploma programs at their local hospitals. Student nurse caps, Florence Nightingale lamps and therapeutic instruments illustrate the rigorous course of study and cultural traditions embodied at these nursing schools which operated throughout the country. A North Carolina public health nursing bag tops off the exhibit.
